Jane Hicks
During the years I practiced dentistry and raised our 2 sons, when an artist occupied the dental chair, I took the opportunity to ask them as much as time allowed about their artistic life. I spent years working up to giving myself the opportunity to experience creative writing, drawing and eventually painting classes. They are all so interconnected. I remember the day in Georgia Young's painting class, when I sat in front of my canvas and stewed as to how I would ever make a lemon appear on that canvas. I really felt like a 5 year old working up the resolve to try something new. And then it happened, two beautiful lemons on my canvas. It was pure delight.
Pure delight is what feeds me each and every time I begin a new painting. Nature seems to be a recurring theme in my painting because it is, after my family, what I love. So my journey as an artist and painter continues with the encouragement and support of the wonderful Artists of Kerrisdale and I hope, besides feeding me, the viewer is also fed.
